Saturday, July 16 is National Day of the American Cowboy. I used to read lots of western romances and I still love watching a classic western. When I taught college American cinema courses one of my favorite genres to discuss was The American Western. It is the oldest type of American film. The Great Train Robbery, a silent 1903 film, was the first movie to tell a story – a narrative.
The American Cowboy: A symbol of independence and individuality
Favorite western movie: The Big Country starring Gregory Peck
Favorite western romance: Outlaw Hearts by Rebecca Brandewyne
Favorite film cowboy actor: Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott (it’s a tie!)
